Vesuvianite Necklace and Earrings Set (SM121)
This is AAA gem quality vesuvianite in a beautiful lustrous olive green. The set comprises tiny microfacetted rondelles with little facetted drops. The rondelles are graduated in size with the largest no bigger than 3mm across.
The necklace measures 17" (435mm) long, with a 5mm extender chain in sterling silver so it can be worn longer. I've attached a drop to the end of the chain, echoing the earrings design, to give the necklace a nice finish.
All the metal part are sterling silver.
This is a lovely jewellery set. Vesuvianite is relatively rate (it was also known at one time as idocrase), named after specimens were found near Mount Vesuvius. Today it is found in several localities, these are from Udaipur in India.
In my view vesuvianite is slight darker than peridot probably because the chemical composition of each stone is different. Vesuvianite is a complex calcium aluminium silcate, where peridot is a magnesium iron silicate. Both are of a similar hardness - 6.5 on the Mohs Scale.
But enough science - this vesuvianite necklace and earrings is going to make you feel fabulous on a night out!
